Hey! Just found your Substack and I’m really enjoying it. I was wondering if you got any answers regarding possible autoimmune disease and your PCOS? I’m navigating similar territory right now with a positive ANA, PCOS, and appointments with Rheum and Gyn

Hi Haley,

So sorry to hear that! Getting help with these from your healthcare team is great. Make sure they check for all possible diagnosis so they rule them out.

To your question, I have not gotten the answers I needed, as usual. Unfortunately a trip to the endocrinologist ended with “it just means you are predisposed to a thyroid diseases and you might miscarry, but we’ll do soemthing about it then”. I was in shock of how easily she said that to me.

As I had to solve my PCOS, I am back at solving this one.

So far I am trialing a few things: cutting out gluten - I have 2/3 genetic variations - one more gene variation and I would have been celiac.

In nutrition we believe there is a correlation between gut microbe and autoimmunity (will probably write a newsletter on this soon). I tested mine and I have some inflammation and bacteria I don’t want there.

Other things I am doing is exercising less and eating more.

I am giving myself 3 more months of doing these and will test again. I want to give my body a chance to do its thing. Will keep you posted. Please bear in mind these are super specific to me, my genes and microbiome.

Happy to jump on a call if you want to brainstorm and discuss this further. ❤️

Thank you for such a thoughtful response! Sorry you're sharing in the misery of this detective work. I've been GF for nearly two years and it's made an enormous difference (energy levels, brain fog, gastro). I completely support the belief of gut microbiome correlation with autoimmunity. In my experience, it takes several months for your body to adjust to a GF diet to notice the full effects. I also have had success with probiotics, both from natural food sources and in supplement-form.

Happy to connect and chat further! I hope you get the answers you are looking for soon. ❤️

Being vegan/vegetarian could affect PCOS? If so, would be on a positive or negative way?
